Parrot & budgie boarding

We have been caring for pet birds since 2009 and have experience of boarding African Greys, Amazon, conures, small parrots, cockatiels and budgerigars.

We will ask you for full information at the time of booking to ensure we can cater for your bird’s requirements.

Parrots

We have experience of boarding African Grey, Amazon and small parrots and understand they are all individuals with varying backgrounds, likes and dislikes!

We ask you to bring your own cage (or holiday cage) for their stay as this helps them settle (we can help with transporting large cages if required).

Sorry we are unable to board Macaws, Toucans or uncaged birds.

Parrots out of Cage time :

Sorry, we do not provide out of cage time for your bird’s safety, while they are staying with us as they will be in unfamiliar surroundings. However we do provide music, company and enrichment to ensure their stay is an interesting one.

Cockatiels and Conures

We have experience with various types of cockatiel and conure. As above, they need to come for their stay in their own familiar cage.

Budgies

Budgies are great little characters and we have two cheeky budgies of our own! Please bring your own cage for their stay. We can’t let budgies out of their cage during their stay but we will spend time with them as well as providing plenty of daily interest and cage enrichment.

Other birds (fancy doves etc)

We have experience with hand reared indoor pet doves. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. You will need to provide a suitable holiday cage.

Poultry

We have many years’ experience of caring for ducks and chickens including our own. Sorry we are unable to board poultry but we may be able to arrange daily home visits instead within the areas of Marchwood, Hythe or West Totton. Please contact us or see our sister site at www.forestpetservices.co.uk.

FAQ:

Q: What are your health requirements?

Birds must be healthy at the time of boarding.

If boarding at a busy time at the same time as other birds, before their first stay, parrots need to have had either a (one time) negative test for Psittacosis, or a pre boarding vet health check, from a vet to comply with our boarding regulations and to ensure the wellbeing of everyone’s birds.

A Psittacosis blood test can be easily carried out during a routine vet visit. Some vets don’t charge extra while others charge around £30-50.

This usually only needs to be done at the first time of boarding.

Please ask us for advice for further information on this if applicable.

Q: Will you let my bird out of their cage while boarding with you?

We do not allow holiday boarding birds out of their cage; in an unfamiliar environment, even if they have boarded with us before, they are more likely to be unpredictable, scared, over excited, destructive or unwilling to return to their cage. There may be other pets boarding as well which may not appreciate your bird near them!

It is important that we can build trust with your bird and this can be risked by unexpected issues when out of their cage in a new short term environment.

We do provide music, regular company and enrichment to ensure they still have plenty to do during their stay!
